Hi, my name is Leroy Varas, and I’m thankful to be a part of the McKay Music Library team! I am a senior from Salt Lake City, and I’m currently pursuing a degree in music composition, as well as a minor in business and certificates in music technology and entrepreneurship. In addition to writing music, I sing and play piano, harp, and percussion. I grew up surrounded by a love of music, and I eventually began writing my own songs about my experiences. I was immediately thrilled by the process of singing and songwriting and felt drawn to pursuing music composition.
As a library assistant, I want to help my peers and learn more about composers through archived materials. I am also interested in starting a student composer collection within the library where future students can learn more about composition by analyzing the scores of fellow alumni. When I’m not not writing and studying music, I love to hike, jog, stargaze, swim, play video games, and write poetry. It’s grand to be a student and staff member at this marvelous school. I’m thankful for all my experiences here and I can’t wait for more!
